Key Features

This breathtakingly elegant and deeply moving composition presents the Anahata Chakra Yantra - the geometric and vibrational map of the fourth energy center in the human subtle body. Having ascended through the dense earth of Muladhara, the fluid water of Swadhishthana, and the fierce fire of Manipura, we arrive here at the heart - the great crossing point, the sacred bridge between the lower three chakras of matter and the upper three chakras of spirit. Anahata means "unstruck" - the sound that arises without two things striking together, the primordial hum of existence itself. And this yantra renders that paradox in pure geometry.

The palette here is deliberately austere and profound: deep black as the infinite ground of being, bold red as the living pulse of love in the body, and luminous white as the pure light of consciousness piercing through both - three colors that together speak the complete language of the heart.

The Central Bindu - Bija Mantra YAM (यँ)

At the still, luminous center of this yantra sits the bija mantra YAM (यँ) - the seed sound of the air element (Vayu Tattva) and the activating mantra of the Anahata Chakra - inscribed in clean white against the softly glowing black field within the interlocking triangles. YAM is the sound of breath, of space between heartbeats, of the invisible force that moves between all things without being seen. To chant YAM while gazing at this yantra is to directly activate the air principle within the subtle body - expanding the capacity for love, dissolving the armor of the heart, and opening the inner space where true compassion arises.

The Star of Shiva - Shadkona

The most visually distinctive and philosophically profound element of this yantra is the magnificent six-pointed star (Shadkona) formed by two interlocking equilateral triangles rendered in brilliant white - one pointing upward, one pointing downward. This is the Star of Shiva and Shakti - the Shatkona - one of the most sacred symbols in all of Tantric and Vedic geometry. The upward triangle (Shiva Kona) represents masculine, ascending, consciousness-directed energy - the movement of awareness from matter toward spirit. The downward triangle (Shakti Kona) represents feminine, descending, creative energy - the movement of divine grace from spirit into matter. Where they intersect and interpenetrate is the heart - the Anahata - the only point in the subtle body where Shiva and Shakti are in perfect, dynamic equilibrium. Neither fire consuming water nor water extinguishing fire - but the still point of their mutual embrace. The six points of the star also correspond to the six qualities of pure love: giving, receiving, protecting, cherishing, knowing, and being known.

The Twelve-Petalled Lotus - Dvadashadala Padma

Encircling the central star is a glorious twelve-petalled lotus in deep red - each petal bold, rounded, and flame-tipped at its outer edge, giving the lotus a dynamic, living quality as though each petal is simultaneously a flame and a flower. The twelve petals correspond to the twelve vrittis (mental modifications) of Anahata: hope, anxiety, endeavour, possessiveness, arrogance, incompetence, discrimination, evasion, neutrality, repentance, hope, and humility - the full emotional and relational spectrum that the heart chakra governs and that practice transforms into their luminous opposites. Each petal carries one of the twelve Sanskrit bija syllables - Kaṃ (कँ), Khaṃ (खँ), Gaṃ (गँ), Ghaṃ (घँ), Ṅaṃ (ङँ), Caṃ (चँ), Chaṃ (छँ), Jaṃ (जँ), Jhaṃ (झँ), Ñaṃ (ञँ), Ṭaṃ (टँ), Ṭhaṃ (ठँ) - the twelve presiding seed-sounds of this chakra's twelve directional energies, inscribed in white against the red petals with elegant clarity. Twelve petals also evoke the twelve solar months - suggesting that the heart, like the sun, has a complete and perfect cycle of its own.

The Bhupura - The Outer Enclosure

The outermost frame is the classic Bhupura with T-shaped cardinal gates on all four sides, rendered in stark black with precise gold double-line borders. The Bhupura here feels less like a fortress wall and more like a sacred threshold - an invitation to enter the innermost chamber of the heart. The restraint of the black outer field allows the fiery red lotus and luminous white star to blaze at the center with full intensity, undistracted and undiluted.

Philosophical and Spiritual Significance

Anahata is the heart center of the human subtle body - the seat of Vayu (sacred air), unconditional love, compassion, devotion, and the capacity for self-transcendence. Located at the cardiac plexus in the center of the chest, it is the pivot point of the entire chakra system - the place where the personal becomes universal, where the individual self first touches the infinite.

It governs the air element, the sense of touch, the heart, lungs, and hands, and all aspects of love, empathy, grief, forgiveness, and spiritual longing. The deity presiding here is Ishana (a form of Shiva) and the Shakti is Kakini - the radiant, golden Goddess of the heart who bestows the boon of pure devotion and opens the inner door to higher consciousness.

A balanced Anahata manifests as unconditional love without attachment, genuine compassion without martyrdom, the capacity to grieve fully and heal completely, and the fearless openness of a heart that has been broken and has grown wider for it. The Anahata is also the seat of the Jivatman - the individual soul - and of the Ananda Kanda lotus, where the divine wish-fulfilling tree (Kalpa Vriksha) is said to reside.

To meditate upon this yantra - chanting YAM, gazing into the interlocking triangles, breathing slowly and allowing the heart to expand into the space the yantra holds open - is to begin the great work of the heart: the dissolution of the boundary between self and other, lover and beloved, the finite and the infinite.
