Key Features
This striking and deeply esoteric composition presents the Matrika Yantra - the Yantra of the Divine Mothers, the sacred geometric map of the 50 primal sound-syllables (Matrikas) that form the very foundation of Sanskrit, consciousness, and creation itself.
Rendered in luminous white on a rich, cosmic black ground with gold-accented borders, this yantra radiates quiet authority. The design is both visually arresting and spiritually precise - every element placed with devotional exactitude.
At the absolute center rests the Bindu inscribed with the supreme bija mantras Hrīṃ Sauḥ — the seed sounds of Shakti and the Paraśakti (Supreme Consciousness). These two syllables together represent the union of cosmic energy (Shakti) and transcendent awareness (Shiva), the inseparable core from which all sound and existence emerge.
Radiating outward from the Bindu, the yantra unfolds in concentric wheels of Sanskrit aksharas (letters). The inner ring carries the vowels - the primal, self-luminous sounds (svaras) - representing pure, unconditioned consciousness. The outer ring systematically maps all consonant groups (vyanjanas) of the Sanskrit alphabet, organized according to the classical phonological system of the Shiva Sutras: the gutturals (ka-varga), palatals (cha-varga), cerebrals, dentals, labials (pa-varga), and the semi-vowels and sibilants - a complete sonic cosmology encoded within a single diagram.
Encircling this phonetic universe is a 16-petalled lotus (Shodasha-dala Padma), each petal holding a group of letters - mirroring the 16-petal lotus of the Sri Chakra's second Avarana (Sarva Asha Paripuraka Chakra), which fulfills all desires. The lotus blooms outward as a symbol of the unfolding of consciousness through language and sound.
The outermost frame is a Bhupura - the traditional square earth-enclosure with T-shaped gates on all four cardinal directions - rendered in bold gold and white, grounding the infinite vibrational field within the four directions of the manifest world. The four corners and gate positions carry additional bija syllables, consecrating all spatial directions.
The Matrikas in Tantric philosophy are not merely letters - they are living Goddesses, presided over by the Ashtamatrikas (eight divine mothers) and ultimately by Maha Tripura Sundari herself. The Khadgamala Stotram enumerates these Devi forms precisely because the act of recitation is itself a traversal of this yantra - sound moving through form, consciousness moving through space.
To meditate upon this yantra is to enter the living architecture of language - to recognize that every word ever spoken, every mantra ever recited, is an emanation of the Divine Mother's own body.
The palette - black, white, and gold - reflects the Tantric aesthetic: black as the void (Shunya) from which Shakti emerges, white as pure illuminating awareness, gold as the radiance of Brahman made visible.
